Cloud Watchers and Cloud Makers

Clouds!
What are they made of?
Are they all the same?
Why are some of them white and some of them gray?
Why do they move?
Why do they change?
What do they look like?
Why do some have snow and others rain?
Why does it rain sometimes when there aren't any clouds?

These are a few of the questions we asked
when we started studying clouds.
Who knew we could have so much fun finding out the answers!?

 Cirrus Clouds: Latin meaning feathery

Cumulus Clouds (and hands!): Latin meaning piled up

Stratus: Latin meaning sheet, stretched out

Nimbus: Latin meaning rain

 Nimbus clouds dropping snowflakes

Now the tricky part
Cumulocirrus: Piled up cirrus clouds
(Seriously accumulating cirrus clouds!)

Nimbostratus: Stretched out sheets of rain clouds

And the tallest of all
Cumulonimbus: Piled up rain clouds
Also known as thunderheads

Who can make the most accumulative cumulonimbus cloud?

Who can make a rainbow?

Cumulocutus: Latin meaning piled up cuteness

Cumulofunnus: Latin meaning piled up fun!

What do you see?
Cumulus shaving cream and glue clouds:
