We Love to Type!

We getting started off on the right foot and on the correct keys
with a fun program called Dance Mat Typing.

In Level 1 Gary the Goat teaches us the home row keys

and the correct finger positions.

Most of us are done with Level 1 and are moving on to Level 2.

Trying not to look at our fingers

Working on correct wrist position

Lots of practice

Sometimes there's a lively song to listen to.

Home row position is becoming a habit that will benefit us for the rest of our lives!

Check it out at Dance Mat Typing.

Cloud Watchers and Cloud Makers

Clouds!
What are they made of?
Are they all the same?
Why are some of them white and some of them gray?
Why do they move?
Why do they change?
What do they look like?
Why do some have snow and others rain?
Why does it rain sometimes when there aren't any clouds?

These are a few of the questions we asked
when we started studying clouds.
Who knew we could have so much fun finding out the answers!?

 Cirrus Clouds: Latin meaning feathery

Cumulus Clouds (and hands!): Latin meaning piled up

Stratus: Latin meaning sheet, stretched out

Nimbus: Latin meaning rain

 Nimbus clouds dropping snowflakes

Now the tricky part
Cumulocirrus: Piled up cirrus clouds
(Seriously accumulating cirrus clouds!)

Nimbostratus: Stretched out sheets of rain clouds

And the tallest of all
Cumulonimbus: Piled up rain clouds
Also known as thunderheads

Who can make the most accumulative cumulonimbus cloud?

Who can make a rainbow?

Cumulocutus: Latin meaning piled up cuteness

Cumulofunnus: Latin meaning piled up fun!

What do you see?
Cumulus shaving cream and glue clouds:

Real Life Graphing

Have you ever wondered where your clothing was made?
Or what type of pet do most of your friends have?
Or what is their favorite book?
These are some of the questions
the Navigators and the Pioneers asked as we did some
REAL LIFE GRAPHING

Where is your shirt from?

Where is that on the map?

Recording our findings

Entering our data into the computer using Excel and Create A Graph

Creating line graphs...

...and bar graphs

...and pie charts

Displaying our findings for all to see and compare

Science Я Us at Seabury!

Science in the Navigators' classroom
starts with asking questions and then seeking answers.
The result? Total engagement and great learning!

What is the weather like today?
Recording and comparing our daily weather:

Play with a purpose:

Recording our findings:
As the year has progressed,
we have become much more curious, observant,
experimental, hypothetical, analytical,
knowledgeable, articulate and more!

The water cycle:

The three states of matter:

Making our own thermometer:

Cohesion of water:
Our experiments with cohesion met with
lots of oohs and ahhs and what ifs and look at mines!

Making a rain gauge:

Hot air rises:
(And cold air sinks--close the door!!)

Temperature tends to even out and make purple!
