February 11, 2014 This Is What Multiplication Looks Like

"Math is fun!" is our motto in math class. 

Here we are "playing" with manipulatives 

and doing some big multiplication (and division) problems:

Gathering the base ten blocks to equal the product

Making the array

Gather 2 hundreds, 4 tens, 2 ones and make an array
22 X 11 = 242
or 242 ÷ 11 = 22

Gather 4 hundreds, 6 tens, 2 ones and make an array
21 X 22 = 462
 462 ÷ 21 = 22

Is there another way to show 462?
42 X 11 = 462
462 ÷ 11 = 42
