March 6, 2014 Field Trip: Slater Museum of Natural History

The Navigators, along with our Explorer friends, attended the Slater Museum of Natural History. With sketch journals in hand, we were ready to see the "well-curated collection of specimens" and to  join in the "research and education by the communities to which it belongs: the University of Puget Sound, the Puget Sound region, and, in a broad sense, the world." THAT'S US!

For more pictures of the fur fridge, the collections of preserved amphibians and crossbills, various eggs and  much more, be sure to check out the Explorers' blog:  Field Trip: Slater Natural History Museum

March 20, 2014 Science, Science Everywhere!

How do volcanoes erupt?
What is the fastest way to start a backyard fire?
Can you blow up a balloon with vinegar and baking soda?
What happens to balls when you toss them in a car that is braking?
Which melts first, a dark colored M&M or a light colored M&M?
Do age and exercise affect heart rate?
Which boat holds the most pennies before sinking?
What is the most efficient way to pop popcorn?
What rots apples fastest?
Our younger friends are very interested
Sharing with our fellow Navigators

We love to mix things up and cause reactions!
The middle schoolers have lots of questions for us.
The older schoolmates amaze us with their projects.
Our families and friends come to support us.

Two girls with the same name connect through science!
Enjoying the rock candy treat

February 28, 2014 The Magic of Dr. Seuss

"You can find magic
wherever you look.
Sit back and relax,
all you need is
a book."

"Now, don't ask me what voom is.
I never will know.
But, boy! Let me tell you
It DOES clean up snow!"

"The more that you read
the more things you will know.
The more that you learn,
the more places you'll go."

"In every Zook house and in every Zook town
every Zook eats his bread
with the butter side down!"

"You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself,
any direction you choose."

"I can read in red
I can read in blue
I can read in pickle color, too."

“A person's a person, no matter how small.”

"Ninety-nine zillion,
Nine trillion and two
Creatures are sleeping!
So...
How about you?"

"That day, they decided that Sneetches are Sneetches,
and no kind of Sneetch is the BEST on the beaches.
That day, all the Sneetches forgot about stars,
and whether they had one or not upon thars."

February 20, 2014 Future Brain Surgeons?

Thanks to one of our wonderful moms, we donned the surgical gloves and examined several real human skulls. Thinking like scientists, we observed many interesting things and asked some very good questions. As their teacher, I'm learning right along with them. I loved, loved, loved it!

February 19, 2014 The 100th Day

The Navigators, along with our Explorer and Bumblebee friends, celebrated The 100th Day of the school year doing what we love to do. Math! Using various tools and approaches, we came up with 100's of ways to make 100. Here is a sampling of the children on a mission. Notice the differentiation, a hallmark of Seabury School.
