October 24, 2012 Smart Board Smarts

It's a short week with conferences on Thursday and Friday. I'm enjoying telling parents all the wonderful things about their wonderful children. I have so many good things to say about each and every one of them. We're having an awesome year!

Sometimes the students are the teacher and the teacher becomes the student. They're helping me become a smarter user of the Smart Board.

This is an interactive program teaching place value, addition and subtraction. We also tried it out in  base 2, base 4 and base 5. It was fun to see the light bulbs turn on!

We also celebrated Miss Suzanne's birthday...

with cards...

and pictures...

...and a trip to the treasure box of books.

We appreciate all the work she does for us and hope
she had fun telling her husband, "Mr. Suzanne," all about it!

October 16, 2012 Trip to Salmon Hatchery

The Soos Creek Salmon Hatchery, Auburn, WA

Our first glimpse of fish--6 inch smolt jumping in a big pool

Seeing the big ones in the creek.
Look! There's a fish! And another one! Did you see that one jump!?

They've changed colors! There's a dead one!! There's a chinook. And a coho!

The Muckleshoot Tribe was catching chinook to take to another stream to release and to study.

Watching 1,000's and 1,000's of fish in the retaining pond

Asking some very good questions

A 35 pound whopper

The male salmon's hooked snout and teeth

Very curious Navigators

Inside the hatchery where the eggs are incubating

Up close and personal

One final question

A make-a-fish-face pose

A fun time was had by all!

Week of October 8, 2012 Field Trip to Food Bank/The Fog/Campaigning

Loading up the vehicles

A full pickup...

...and a full van

Fun on the bus

Waiting to weigh the food

How much does it weigh?

About 9.2 pounds

It takes teamwork

We brought 931 pounds of food!

How much does each family get?

Helping sort the food

Food bank math

"The Fog" came on little cat feet, sitting over Commencement Bay and Tacoma on silent haunches and didn't move on for a long time!

Wow, Carl Sandburg lived to be 98 years old!

The Seabury election season is underway. Who will be our  Head of School (for a day) and Secretary (for a day)? Be sure to check out the Octopi and Creators blogs for more info.

The Endeavor Party is doing an all school survey.

"What would you like to see happen at Seabury?"

More homework!

Why not an amusement park?

The Pig Party is trying a different campaign approach--educate (and entertain) the voters.

Much more to come! Stay tuned!!
